Michael O’Connor is Managing Director, Portfolio Manager at Clarion Partners. Prior to joining Portfolio Management, Michael was an Acquisitions Officer with the firm and structured investment transactions in the private and public markets. He also previously served as a Vice President with Clarion’s Research Team. Michael joined Clarion in 1997 and has more than 27 years of real estate experience. He earned his B.A. in Public Policy from Brown University and his MBA in Finance from Columbia School of Business. Michael is a member of the Urban Land Institute and has been elected as co-president of Defined Contribution Real Estate Council.
Allan Swaringen JLL Income Property Trust
C. Allan Swaringen is chief executive officer and president of Jones Lang LaSalle Income Property Trust. Mr. Swaringen has more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry, including a variety of leadership and investment management positions with LaSalle Investment Management and other leading institutions. A leading industry expert and advocate for standards and transparency in the non-listed REIT space, Mr. Swaringen has served as a speaker and featured panelist at numerous industry conferences. Mr. Swaringen holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a B.S. from the University of Illinois.
Sara Shean PGIM Real Estate
Sara Shean is an Executive Director at PGIM Real Estate. Sara has 23 years of industry experience and is responsible for covering institutional relationships and delivering thought leadership regarding the implementation of Real Estate investment solutions in the defined contribution space.
Prior to joining PGIM Real Estate, Ms. Shean was head of institutional defined contribution at Cohen & Steers for three years. She also spent 19 years at J.P. Morgan, including 12 years as an investment strategist for defined contribution clients of J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services/Empower.
Ms. Shean earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Management from Cornell University, and is a CFP® certificant.
Ms. Anne-Marie Vandenberg has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of RREEF Property Trust, Inc. and a member of its Board since October 03, 2018. She has also served as a Director and Portfolio Manager for DWS’s Alternatives platform since September 2017 leading the RREEF Real Estate defined contribution strategy. From 2005, Ms. Vandenberg was part of Real Estate Capital Markets for DWS where she underwrote and negotiated asset and fund level financings across the Americas private real estate platform. She became a Director of DWS and Head of Real Estate Capital Markets in 2013. Ms. Vandenberg joined DWS in July 2004 as part of the RREEF Real Estate closing team, working on the acquisition and disposition of commercial real estate investments. Ms. Vandenberg has also been involved in fund restructuring efforts, sits on RREEF America’s internal Investment Strategy Council and has participated in the strategic capitalization of several real estate products including the Company, RREEF America REIT II, and RREEF Core Plus Industrial Fund. Ms. Vandenberg is an active member of the Urban Land Institute (“ULI”) where she serves as Vice Chair of the Urban Mixed Use and Development Silver Council, as well as on the ULI-Chicago Women’s Leadership Initiative Advisory Board. Ms. Vandenberg is also the co-chair of the Pension Real Estate Association’s Defined Contribution Affinity Group and co-treasurer of the Defined Contribution Real Estate Council. Ms. Vandenberg holds a B.A. from Tulane University, a M.S. in Real Estate from DePaul University and a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School.
Lennine Occhino Mayer Brown
Lennine Occhino is the Global Coordinating Leader of Mayer Brown's Private Investment Fund Industry Group and a member of the ERISA practice. Since joining the firm in 1988, Lennine has concentrated exclusively in the pension investment area, advising on the structuring and offering of alternative investment vehicdles of all types to ERISA and government plans and other institutional investors, including alternative investment funds for defined contribution plans, onshore and offshore hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, infrastructure funds, group trusts, bank collective trusts and insurance company separate accounts. Lennine was recognized by peers in The Best Lawyers in America (2012-2015) and Chambers USA (2012-2014) for Employee Benefits Law. Chambers USA noted that “she is hailed as ‘phenomenally talented’ by sources, who note that she is ‘timely in her response, knowledgeable about the issues and able to apply the legal analysis to come up with practical solutions and examples of how others in the industry have handled the matter.’”
Lennine also advises plan sponsors, trustees, investment managers, and other fiduciaries with respect to their fiduciary obligations and compliance procedures. She has extensive experience representing clients in connection with Department of Labor prohibited transaction exemption and advisory opinion requests, as well as audits and enforcement actions brought by the Department of Labor.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Lennine was an Assistant Dean and Lecturer at DePaul University College of Law (1985-1988) and a research attorney at the American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility (1982-1984).
Brian Velky Situs RERC
Brian T. Velky serves as Managing Director of fiduciary and valuation services for Real Estate Research Corporation (RERC). His knowledge of real estate valuation and investment analysis, performance benchmarking and attribution analysis, and portfolio analysis ensures that clients receive the full benefit of RERC’s expertise as an independent provider of financial services for investment real estate. Among his various responsibilities, Mr. Velky is involved in managing RERC’s independent fiduciary engagements, including the TIAA Real Estate Account for TIAA-CREF, which has approximately $17 billion in net real estate assets. Mr. Velky also directs RERC’s valuation consulting relationship with the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), which has more than $20 billion in gross real estate assets.
As the valuation consultant, RERC manages CalSTRS’ quarterly valuation process, along with providing consulting advice with respect to valuation best practices. Similarly, Mr. Velky directs RERC’s engagement with the State Board of Administration of Florida (SBA). RERC serves as the appraisal administrator responsible for the SBA’s annual valuation process. In this engagement, RERC has also been retained to provide valuation services for a number of the SBA’s mortgage debt and alternative investments, including their investments in mezzanine debt and preferred equity positions.
Mr. Velky, who holds the CFA designation, also serves as lead engagement director for all of RERC’s debt valuation responsibilities. In addition, Mr. Velky serves as engagement director for RERC’s relationship as valuation advisor to the Jones Lang LaSalle Income Property Trust (JLLIPT). RERC is responsible for the daily mark-to-market value reporting process, and Mr. Velky remains actively involved in the engagement, including reporting to the board. He also served as the lead director in JLLIPT’s transition from a quarterly mark-to-market fund to a daily mark-to-market fund (effective Oct. 1, 2012). Mr. Velky has been interviewed and quoted in a number of industry publications regarding commercial real estate trends and market expectations.
Mary Adams ECG
Mary Adams is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) with more than 16 years experience in the conference, meeting planning, association management and marketing business. ECG is a focused firm, specializing in the financial services industry. In addition to running ECG, Mary is the Executive Director for the Bergen County Professional Women’s Network. Mary is frequently invited to speak on the topics of meeting planning, entrepreneurship and women in business.
Prior to launching ECG, Mary worked for Merck & Co. as a professional sales representative in the cardiovascular, neuroscience and orthopedic markets. She came to Merck & Co. after helping to establish the Life Sciences division of Worldwide Business Research, a conference company in New York City, where she produced conferences on drug discovery and online retail. Before moving to New York, Mary worked in marketing with the president of an automotive engineering company in Cleveland, Ohio. While there, she produced one-on-one sales meetings, spearheaded the company’s brand identity campaign, and managed all marketing and sales support initiatives.
Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She earned her Masters in Business Administration from Fordham University in New York, where she graduated with Beta Gamma Sigma, American Marketing Association and Phi Kappa Phi honors.
